Recharging at The Box

The landscape and architecture of our home is a springboard for reflection and action. The resident family of striated pardalotes, the myriad marsupial visitors at dusk and dawn and the stands of eucalyptus, black wattles and casuarinas sustain us in the increasingly strange and worrying times in which we find ourselves.

We are facing a future which will surely need even more radical acts of fairness. Our hope and aim is to protect and pass on this special property, together with the Earth Arts Rights ideas and actions to the next generation.

We became the third custodians of what is now the home of OUTSIDE THE BOX / Earth Arts Rights in 2010 and embarked on a 10-year journey to reimagine the property in keeping with sustainable-living principles. What was once one very big house became the three smaller, environmentally friendly houses that are on the site today. We live in two of them and we offer the third as a refuge to travellers. We call this one OUTSIDE THE BOX.

This architecturally designed apartment is a peaceful, contemplative space with views to magnificent kunanyi / Mount Wellington and sited in stunning natural bushland.

It is fully self-contained, beautifully finished and features some truly exquisite artwork by Tasmanian artists.

For most of the year, OUTSIDE THE BOX is available for rent by people working or holidaying in Tasmania. OUTSIDE THE BOX is also offered at a reduced rate to people working in the earth, arts, rights space.

Future plans include offering the apartment as part of a supported residency program for thinkers, writers, activists and artists.

We welcome you to come and stay with us and re-charge your batteries!

All profits from the accommodation are put towards the projects that we support through OUTSIDE THE BOX / Earth Arts Rights Inc.
